Spring at Bago
Fresh green shoots are appearing along the vines, the days are stretching a little longer and soon the jacarandas will begin their annual show of purple.
It’s one of our favourite times of year to be here — made for getting outside, exploring the Maze, finding a spot on the lawn and watching the farm change with the season.
If you’re planning a day out near Port Macquarie this Spring, here are a few things to discover at Bago.
The vineyard is waking up
Spring in the vineyard starts quietly.
Tiny green shoots begin appearing along what were bare winter vines and, before long, the rows start filling with fresh green leaves.
It all happens surprisingly quickly, so the vineyard can look a little different from one week to the next.
Take a wander while you’re here and see what’s growing.
Spring is made for Maze adventures
Not too hot, not too cold — Spring is one of our favourite times to get wonderfully lost.
Explore more than 2km of pathways through Australia’s largest hedge maze, with bridges, lookouts and plenty of wrong turns along the way.
Keep an eye out for our Treasure Hunt creatures hiding amongst the hedges too. Pick up a Treasure Hunt sheet before you head in and see who you can discover along the way.
Then swap searching for sprinting and challenge the family to a race through our Running Maze.
A little imagination, a little competition and a very good Spring adventure.
The jacarandas are coming
There are certain moments around the farm that tell us Spring has really arrived, and the jacarandas flowering is one of them.
Their purple blooms against all that fresh Spring green make this a particularly beautiful time to wander around the property.
They don’t stay like this for long — which might be part of what makes them so special.
If you happen to visit while they’re flowering, (Oct/Nov) take your time and definitely bring your camera.
What we’re drinking this Spring
Spring has arrived, so our wine choices are getting a little lighter too.
The Picnic Wines are back on the table, Rosella Red is perfect when you still feel like something red, and we’re reaching for Verdelho, Rosé and Chardonnay as the afternoons start getting warmer.

Bring a picnic and make a day of it
There’s no need to rush a day at Bago.
Bring a picnic and find a spot on the grass, order something from our Coffee Bar, pick up a local platter or settle in with a glass of Bago wine while the kids enjoy some space to explore.
Start with the Maze, wander the property and then find somewhere to sit for a while.
Sometimes the best days are the ones without too much of a plan.
As Bago is a licensed venue, BYO alcohol isn’t permitted, but you’ll find plenty of local wine waiting at the Cellar Door.

Bago Under the Stars
Saturday 17 October 2026 · 6pm–9.30pm
For the first time, we’re opening Bago after dark for a special night under the stars with Port Macquarie Observatory.
Experience the night sky from the quiet of the Bago countryside, away from the brighter lights of town, with telescopes, stargazing and the mountains as your backdrop.
Bring the family and discover a completely different side of Bago.
Bookings are essential.
Stay a little longer
If one day doesn’t feel quite long enough, you can stay with us at Mountain View Camp.
Spend the afternoon exploring Bago, then watch the last light disappear behind the hills and settle in for a quiet country evening.
On a clear night, look up. Away from town, the night sky can be pretty spectacular. Discover through Hipcamp.
Make a Spring day of it
Start with coffee. Get lost in the hedge maze. Hunt for creatures. Race through the Running Maze. Bring a picnic or share a local platter. Wander through the vineyard. Finish with a glass of local wine.
Or do it completely differently.
That’s rather the point.
Bago Maze & Wine is open daily from 9am–5pm, with last Maze entry at 4pm, just 30 minutes from Port Macquarie.
